HUSSEIN MISSILE THREAT

Z Press Assn—Copyright* AMMAN, (Jordan). August 8. King Hussein of Jordan has said that he will buy an air-defence system from the Soviet Union if he cannot get 14 Hawk missile batteries from the United States. “We simply must have this request met fully or else find a compatible option,” King Hussein told journalists at a lunch in his palace. “A compatible option does not exist in Europe, and this means we will probably have to go to our friends in the Soviet Union.” King Hussein indicated that Soviet advisers might be stationed in Jordan if he buys Russian missiles. The King and his Prime Minister (Mr Said Rifai) were obviously angry at Congressional opposition to the SUS3SOm Hawk deal, which has postponed a decision until September 10.
