Nudism not wanted in Corsica
<N.Z. Prejj A«»n—Copynoht) BASTIA, Corsica. I Angry reaction against audists on Corsican Beaches nas spread to the village of tinguizetta, 50 kilometres' jouth of Bastia. Villagers brushed paint on firee nudists on a local beach, while the town council mnounced that anv more tudism would be punished bv inaching the offender to an iss, and parading him or her laked around the village. Last week, the Mayor ofi Jgliastro and local coun- I fillers painted 15 nudists on jhat village’s beaches and remarked that “there’s a cer-. tain moral standpoint, and will defend it."
. This action drew nationwide attention in a country that has moved to accept nudism, pornographic feature films, and a general relaxation of rigid moral codes since President Valery Giscard D’Estaing succeeded the late President Georges Pompidou. As recently as the summer of 1974. police w’ere still disguising themselves as sunbathers to trap and arrest women who had shed their bras, but this summer’s vacation season has seen toleration of total nudity on many French beaches. Corsica. and remote parts of Brittany are exceptions.
