Rudi Gernreich (above), one of the world’s most controversial fashion designers, will be guest judge of this year’s Benson and Hedges Fashion Design Awards. His co-judge will be Mrs Dorothy Moses, a Wellington free-lance journalist. Judging of entries will begin in Wellington on October 5. The main awards presentation will take place on the evening of October 6. Selected en- , tries will be taken on a I tour of 13 cities and pro- ; vincial centres. Local charities will benefit from each performance. There will he three com-
petitive sections carrying total prize money of $2250. They will be for the gown of the year, women’s daywear, and women’s and men’s casual wear by designers under the age of 25. The Benson and Hedges Supreme Award will go to the designer of the most outstanding entry over all sections. A new feature this year will be the non-com-petitive Benson and Hedges Hall of Fame, for which a limited number of leading designers are being invited to submit a garment of their choice. Entries close on September 1.
