190 die in air crash
(N.Z.P.A.Reuter—Copyright) CASABLANCA, August 3. All 182 Moroccan passengers and eight crew were believed killed today when a chartered Boeing 707 crashed north of the coastal town of Agadir, Moroccan authorities said. The Jordanian El Alia plane, on charter to Air Maroc, was carrying Moroccan migrant workers home on holiday. The airliner lost contact with the Agadir Airport control tower at 4.28 a.m. and crashed seconds later in the mountainous area of Imzlzen, near the village of Ameskrout. The plane, with Jordanian and British crew members, apparently got lost in dense fog before plummeting to the ground while approaching Agadir. - The plane had taken off from Paris early this morning. In December, 1973, a Belgian Caravelle carrying Moroccan migrant workers and students home for holidays crashed in the mountains near Tangier. All 105 people on board — a crew of seven and 98 passengers — were killed.
The Caravelle hit a mountain peak during a storm.
