Sport and politics

Sir, —Three cheers for Mr J. L. Sullivian and his Rugby Union in their refusal to abandon the tour of South Africa. They, without doubt, believe as do the large majority of New Zealanders, that politics should not interfere in sport. One can appreciate the difficulty of Mr Rowling, with the pressures applied to him bv his Cabinet and the “anti” pressure groups. Had pre-election promises been honoured the position would not have arisen. Missionaries did not obtain converts by a policy of isolation. —Yours, etc., . R.V.S. July 31, 1975.
