Sports on radio
Listener , reaction has already produced a number ; of significant changes in I Radio New Zealand’s pro- | gramme formats and in announcing several national programme developments, Mr George Sanders. Acting i Director-General of Radio New Zealand, commented, “We in Radio New Zealand' have from the start assured our listeners that we would be flexible and we are foli lowing through this promise.” Mr Sanders said that a new daily sports programme called “Sportscall” will be a feature of R.N.Z.’s national programme from Monday. To I be broadcast at 6.45 p.m. each evening, the programme will review the day’s sport-. i ing news and examine the • sports scene in some depth. “Sportscall” will replace ’the present evening sports coverage which has been included as a segment in “Evening Report.” Another new early-evening . feature which Mr Sanders announced is a survey of the country’s evening newspapers, a segment Entitled I “What the Papers Say
which will be incorporated; within “Evening Report” at; 6.15 p.m. from Monday. This programme feature has been introduced in response to the popularity of the similar review of morning newspapers in the “Morning Report” programmes. To meet the interest of the farming community, the country session will from Monday revert to its former time placement immediately after the 12.30 p.m. news[ and weather forecast. This will enable Radio New Zealand’s rural listeners to be free by 1 p.m., a time that is apparently most convenient for farmers. “Midday Report,” which I . until now has been heard from 12.15 p.m., will now begin sharp at noon, with sports news at 12.15 p.m., and the local news at 12.25 p.m.
