Protest delay explained
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 3. The Government delayed its protest to President Amin of Uganda about the proposed execution of a British lecturer, Mr Dennis Hills, until last week because it did not want to endanger the life of Mr Hills or jeopardise ' Uganda’s relationship with Britain, the Acting Prime Minister (Mr Tizard) said today. He was answering a quesi tion from Mr G. F. Gair (Nat., ! North Shofe) asking why the Prime Minister (Mr Rowling) had sent a protest to President Amin on June 27 when the death threat against Mr Hills had been known of on June 12.
