PRESCOTT The Western Holiday SoftI ball Classic in Prescott, Arizona, J opened with the champion, Hayes I Roofing beating the Utah I Noodles, 9-1. i New Zealand lost its opening game, 1-2, in a 12 innings marathon against Phoenix Raiders. Raiders opened the score in the third innings aided by a costly infield error. New Zealand tied the score in the fourth innings when Phil Davies batted safely then scored on a good hit from John Joyce. The winning run for Raiders : came in the twelfth innings j when Randy White, who played for the United club in Auckland Hast summer, hit safely and scored on another New Zealand fielding error and a safe hit Kevin Herlihy, the starting pit-! cher, gave way to Owen Walford in the eighth innings when he split the skin on his fingers The local team, Prescott Lamb beat Sunnyvale California, 4-1. New Zealand plays three games today against Utah Noodles. Oceanside California, and Sunnyvale California, and must improve if it is to reach the finals
