Move to aid Maoris

The s2ni Students Union building at the University of Canterbury is to become a temporary whare wananga, the name for the traditional Maori place of learning. All the facilities in the building will be given free to the Christchurch Maori community for a period once a year. The president of the students’ association (Mr P. F. Dunne) said yesterday that the action towards the Maori people of Christchurch was an important development. "We feel this is a tangible way in which we can assist the' local Maori community, and we hope that further schemes will follow,” he added.
