Students’ fees

Sir, —As a Teachers’ College student who attends : university part-time as part •of my course I am required •to be' a full-time member of • both the university students’ union ($3O) and the student teachers’ union ($31); this • totalling $6l annually. Now That I am classified as a • tertiary student by the new 'bursary system will both these unions have the legal right to force me to be a full-time member of each?— Yours, etc.. E. H.’s TUTEE. June 30, 1975.

[Mr P. F. Dunne, president lof the University of Canterbury Students’ Association I replies: “The introduction of (the standard tertiary bursary (will make no difference at all ■to the obligation to pay students’ association fees. As far as the University of Canterbury Students’ Association is concerned. any student who is enrolled under the University’s regulations and has not been specifically exempted, is required to pay students’ association fees. This requirement is contained in the 1961 University of Canterbury Act. Hence a change in the bursary struc-

ture will not alter the requirement to pay students’ association fees at all.”]
