Corso to buy documentary
Corso plans to buy the World in Action documentary, “Tea: the Deadly Cost" shown on Television One on Tuesday night. The extremely powerful film was a follow-up to an earlier one made by Granada Television and which had been shown to church, school and service club groups, said the regional organiser for Corso (Mr Bob Consedine). He said the latest Granada production brought up-to-date the plight of workers on tea plantations in Sri Lanka run by large British companies. Workers on the plantations earned less than half the average local wage, and the death rate in the first seven months of 1974 was between 6000 and 10.000 with malnutrition a major force. “We have been in touch with .action groups in Sri Lanka and people in othei countries concerned about the situation,” Mr Consedine said. “We will buy the film foi showing to small groups and as an aid to discussion and possible action.”
