Bets return £30,000

A building worker, Derek; Law, aged 38, took time off : from floor-laying yesterday by courtesy of his greyhound, Tartan King, which won him over £30,000 in just 29 seconds at the English Greyhound Derby final which was run at White City, London, on Saturday night. The rank outsider from Northamptonshire landed the £15,000 Spillers Derby prize plus more 30,000 in winning bets for his connections, who backed him from 400-to-l down. ! Tartan King stunned the! crowd of 29,000 by storming j past the early leader, Sally’s f Cobbler, at the third bend to win the final. Law said after the race! that he had backed Tartan King at 400-to-l, 300-to-l,! 250-to-l, and finally at 25-te-! 1, just before the start. He said Tartan King, bought for £250 as an un-j tried puppy in Ireland, had! not won a race since last! September.
