, The Epsom Derby winner, I Grundy, coasted to a comfortable I victory in the Irish Sweeps (Derby at the Curragh on Satur|dav to give tiis Italian owner, Dr Carlo Vittandini, his third I Derby victory of the season. ! Apart from Grundy’s win at I Epsom earlier this month Dr IVlttadini won the Italian Derby I with Orange Bay in April, and was only by a head that his colt. Patch, was defeated in another similar classic, the French Derby, at Chantilly. Grundy, which is trained in England. was ridden with supreme confidence by Pat EdIderv the Irish-born champion jockey of England. He took the Mead just over a furlong out and i won the 5165.682 purse with j great ease. Starting favourite at 10-to-9 on. he was followed in 'by Lester Piggott’s Irishtrained mount. King Pellinore (T-to-2). King Pellinore finished two lengths behind the winner. Third of the 13 runners was Annes Pretender (20-to-l>. six lengths away. It was Grundy’s third classic; victor- He had earlier won the! Irish 200(1 Guineas as well as the; Epsom Derby. 1
