New market opens
The Queen officially opened the new Covent Garden produce market in London yesterday. It replaces the old market immortalised by the Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, in the musical “My Fair Lady.” The Queen told hundreds of market workers that she hoped that the humour and efficiency of the old market, in central London’s theatreland, would survive the transfer to the new site. — London, June 27.
