RANDOM REMINDER
STAND IN
The increasing attention given to the arts and many forms of leisure is a measure of interest in recreation which began well before the “Come Alive'’ campaign. These days people pot madly, work willingly at weaving, turn their hands to sculpture and so forth. Many find pleasure in sketching. There is a Christchurch lady of mature years who decided that art classes were for her, with more time for leisure than she
had ever known before. So she attended them, and she was required — and delighted — to practise at home. She was supported by a welcome amount of family interest. Until she reached the stage of requiring a live, nude model for one of her assignments. She extended a warm invitation to her granddaughter to perform the task of posing for her. But Vicki was outraged and she refused, point blank. After all, at the age of three a girl does
not want to have her person on parade for casual sketchers and any others who might pass by. The artist therefore concluded that she would have to'ask her grandson, aged 16 months, to perform this useful task. Here Vicki displayed all the perfidy of women. Her little brother had not fully mastered the art of perambulation, but she was swift to seize her change. “Yes, yes, he’ll do" she said. “He does do quite a lot of streaking these days, doesn’t he?”.
