TV2 breaks new ground: Jennie is newscaster
Television Two has broken new ground with the appointment of Jennie Goodwin as a (national newscaster. Previously, she was a radio announcer for IZB' in Auckland, and a continuity announcer for Northern Television. She will present the network news in the 7p.m. broadcast. Miss Goodwin, aged; 29, joined the N.Z.B.C.' ten years ago as a
shorthand - typist. She i recalls that she had no ■career aspirations be-i iyond getting the boss’s j letter "spot on.” Her first television audition, made at the suggestion of Bob Irvine. Auckland’s senior announcer, was a flop, she says. She went away, took voice lessons and a year later auditioned again — successfully. She worked in broadcasting in Wellington and returned to Auck-

ment and sums up her attitude to news reading in a sentence: “If you can tell the news naturally and sincerely that is the main .thing.”
