'Norman' is new Christchurch pop show
Pop talent from Wellington south will feature in a new programme called “Norman” being produced by David McPhail in Christchurch. He describes the show as “pop veering to rock” and adds that it will have a studio audience to help along its zestful approach to pop music presentation. “We will follow the charts and will be flexible enough to include original New Zealand groups and singers,” David McPhail added. The front man will be 25-year-oid Wellington radio announcer and actor (he appeared in Buck House) Paul Holmes. SENSE OF HUMOUR Paul has a distinctive style and a sense of humour. Pop fans will see many new faces and groups, and in addition, there will be film clips from overseas shows and interviews with pop celebrities in New Zealand. As for the name of the show, “Norman,” Mr McPhail said the usual type of name for this type of programme was tossed about. “Then some-one suggested a Christian name for the 20week series and we couldn’t see any reason why not,” he added. “Norman” and “The Goodtime Show” — a middle-of-the-road veering to pop show — will alternate weekly in Christchurch and Auckland.
