COUPLE ESCAPE INJURY

An elderly couple escaped unhurt when their car and a shunting train collided on the Clarence Street crossing, Addington, at 6 p.m. They are Mr and Mrs B. A. Hawthorne, of Plcton Avenue, Riccarton.

The couple were taken to Christchurch Hospital by St John ambulance, treated, and discharged.

A pedestrian suffered head and leg injuries at 6.40 p.m. yesterday when he was hit by a car on the comer of Colombo Street and King Street, Sydenham. Randolf Griffin, aged 60, of 46 Southampton Street, Beckenham, was admitted to Christchurch Hospital where his condition last evening was given as satisfactory.
