Criticism of W.C.C.
(N.Z.P.A .Reuter—Copyright > EDINBURGH, June 30. The Church of Scotland has accused the World Council of Churches, the international organisation of Protestant religions, of double standards. An editorial in the July issue of the Church of Scotland magazine, “Life and Work,” says that the W.C.C. and the World Reformed Alliance were right to protest against the “cultural unification” policy of Taiwan, w'hich denies Christians the right to have the Bible freely available in the language, or script, of their choice, “but,” it says, “those who send telegrams to Taipeh must surely also send them to Peking and Chairman Mao. In what versions. Mandarin or Amoy, is the Bible freely available in mainland China? “The World Council of Churches is widely, and rightly, accused of double standards in its protests against religious and other persecution in various countries. and its infrequent and muted claim for full human rights and religious freedom in the Soviet Union.”
