CLASH IN S. KOREA Policemen killed
I f A.Z.P..4.Reuter—Copynjht) SEOUL. June 30. I Four policemen have been ! killed and two injured in an i exchange of fire with two ! North Korean commandos near the city of Kwangju, in the south-west of South Korea. The Defence Ministry’s counter-espionage operations command says that one of the commandos was killed, and that a search by troops and police for the other has [ begun. [ The commandos, wearing ■ the uniforms of a South Korean Army captain and [ sergeant, opened fire when challenged by the police in the rugged area outside the city, which is about 30 miles from the coastline. The command says that the police seized more than 50 items, including a rapid- - firing rifle, 62 rounds of : ammunition, two handi grenades, 10 detonating • fuses, and a poison pin from ■ the body of the shot com- 1 mando. I In October, 1968, about 80! i commandos infiltrated South) ■ Korea’s east coast. All except) ! a few who surrendered after) i a two-month-long army operation were killed.
