I China has confirmed that iit will establish diplomatic (relations with Thailand during the visit to Peking of the Thai Prime Minister (Mr Kukrit). An editorial in the "People’s Daily,” welcoming Mr Kukrit, who arrived today, says that the Governments of China and Thailand will “open a new page in the annals of Sino-Thai relations.”
The editorial gives an apparent assurance that China will not aid the Communist guerrillas in Thailand—a pledge demanded by the Thais before relations could be established. “China holds that the social system of a country should be chosen and determined only by the people of that country, and brooks no interference by any outside force,” the “People’s Daily” says.
A similar formula was written, into a communique announcing the establishment of relations between China and the Philippines earlier this month.
