South and North Korea

Sir, — Mr E. Wilmot and Mr Bill Rosenberg are utterly wrong in their statement that the South Korean Government is a threat to North Korea. It is North Korea which attacked South Korea in 1950 and the North’s aims to unify South and North Korea by force remains. South Korea has wanted unification ever since, but only by free elections. If there were free elections the Communists would lose to free democratic Korea. The outcome is clear, because there is prosperous and free democracy in South Korea and dictatorship of the Communist party in North Korea. If North Korea attacks South Korea the United States will defend it. As New Zealand is a member of the Anzus Pact how could we stand aside? When somebody attacked New Zealand, we would like the protection of the United States. Help always is reciprocal. We will have to do the same as we did in 1950. — Yours, etc., RECIPROCAL HELP. June 26, 1975.
