MARRIAGE WITH NISSAN
A need to find more outlets for trade has caused an “automatic marriage” of C. W. F. Hamilton, Ltd, of Christchurch, and Nissan Datsun, of Auckland. The two have combined, although not by contract, to promote and sell MarineNissan - Hamilton turbo packs in Japan.
The group export manager for C. W. F, Hamilton (Mr I D. Cooper) said yesterday that the two companies had been selling this pack in lapan for about eight months, and the prospects looked most promising.
Hamilton’s previously mariketed the jet units through a large trading company, but I because of a change in ecoInomics, such as people buyling more units for commerIcia] boats instead of pleasure I craft, the company had turned to Nissan, which is [now its distributor in Japan. The petrol engine was the main product the Japanese were interested in. said Mr Cooper Each of the three engines [in the series is equipped with 1751 and 752 series water jet I units, made by Hamilton’s. IMr Cooper said that the units ranged in price from $4OO to $3OOO. They were mainly used by commercial people for collecting seaweed. Nissan had recently begun to expand its pleasure boat manufacturing activities, and had started to buy up stocks of the jet units already in Japan. A forecast of sales showed I that about 150 units would be sold this year.
