‘WATCHDOG’ ROLE
f.V Z. Press Association ‘ WELLINGTON. June 25. A clear need still existed for the “kind of watchdog’s role” the Consumer Council! had adopted, the Prime Min-, ister (Mr Rowling) said in; Wellington today. Speaking at a. function to mark the retirement of Sir George Wood, the council’s j founding chairman, Mr Row-, ling acknowledged the vital; part Sir George had played in the organisation’s development.
“It is my great pleasure to. join with others in paying tri-! bute to the work of Sir George Wood,” he said. The Leader of the Opposi- I tion (Mr Muldoon) said Sir; George’s name had been held in the highest regard in New I Zealand for 25 years. Differences of opinion were , inevitable in a field such as; consumer activities. But I whatever these differences had been, the integrity of Sir) George had never been ques-; tioned, Mr Muldoon said. |
