His old record was 3:54.69. Five minutes later, Shirley Babashoff. aged 18, of the ! United States. won the [ women’s 200 m freestyle in a j record-breaking 2:02.54. This | chopped four-tenths of a [ second off her own listed world standard of 2:02.94 However. Komelia Ender, !of East Germany, has a I pending world record of 2:02.27.
Pony clubs.—Mr ft J Talbot (Hawke’s Bay) was re-elected unopposed as president of the New Zealand Pony Clubs’ Association.
