Course for teachers
More than 20 teachers! from South-East Asia and' the Pacific will begin a 14-' week training course in Christchurch on August 11 in a new venture sponsored by the New Zealand Ministry’ of Foreign Affairs through its overseas aid programme. The course, under the direction of Mr J. A. Rendall, of the southern region office of the Department of Education, will involve' teachers from Western : Samoa. Thailand, the Philip-! pines. Indonesia. Malaysia.! Papua New Guinea, the; Cook Islands. Tonga, the Gil-i bert and Ellice Islands. Fiii.| the British Solomon Islands.! the New Hebrides, the; Tokelau Islands, and Niue Island. The course will offer the ' overseas teachers an insight, into New Zealand methods of teaching more than one| age group of pupils in one class. For most of their time inj 'New Zealand the teachers, will work at schools in the < Canterbury area, but they!; will spend one week visiting',: multi-racial primary’ schools!' in Auckland and two weeks;! at rural schools near Rotorua:; with predominantly Maori! pupils. jl The group will arrive in:l New Zealand on August 7. 1
