“CLOSE TO HOME” Perhaps because I am not a Roman Catholic I do object to listening to all the Latin service in the funeral in "Close to Home” on Monday night. Surely the service could have been in English? Isn’t it an English-speaking community? Not many scholars take Latin. It is a touching story otherwise, and quite enjoyable if we could understand all that is said. All the churches in New Zealand, I understand, speak English or Maori, and I am a third generation New Zealander.—G.H. "THE s6m MAN" Could the TVI programmers advise why ’The Six Million Dollar Man” is screened on prime time on Saturday night? After seeing one part in Wellington in coldur and another in black and white, I feel that this is a 60-minute insult to the intelligence. Even if it rescheduled to an afternoon slot for the very young, I will wager the Switchboard will be jammed with angry juvenile callers. If this was a hit in the United States, it shows that many Americans are fooled most of the time, or are of low mentality. I resent my intelligence being insulted by this rubbish. Why not use the star as a herb in advertisements for car sales? After all,, not many vehicles can reach 60 miles an hour in seven seconds 1 —M. O’NEILL. DES BRITTEN

Des Britten, that muchmaligned personality of “Bon Appetit,” I thoroughly enjoy. His sessions are exhilarating, constructive, unusual and come at a time when a tired housewife can sit back and enjoy it. It is infinitely more interesting than a boring surfeit of American trash with pictures of violence and crime dominating the screen practically every night. The chosers of these films must be of poor mentality in thinking the general public relishes such stuff. No wonder crime flourishes. Most people are fed up with and resent pictures of low morality, with shooting and murdering being brought before the rising generation continually. Many a good cowboy picture has been screened in the past, often with a moral such as the triumph of good over evil, etc.—HOPEFUL.
