French held to draw

(N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) WINDHOEK.

A last-minute penalty yesterday saved the French Rugby team from defeat against a powerful SouthWest African side, Agence France-Presse reported. Jean-Pierre Pesteil, converted from stand-off half to full-back for this game, kicked the penalty and levelled the scores, at 13-13. Sloppy French threequarters play allowed chances to slip away, and enabled South-West Africa to turn a 4-10 deficit at half-time into a 13-10 lead.

French points came from a try by M. Yachvili and penalties by J. P. Romeu (2) and Pesteil. South-West Africa scored tries by J. Coetzee and H. Schrader; J. Smuts converted one and D. Karg kicked a penalty.
