A Zaire newspaper has' said that if the United States! tried to upset the rule of; President Mobutu, “No American would leave the! country alive.” the Zaire, news agency reported. The newspaper, “Elima." had reported on Sunday that the United States planned and financed a coup attempt against President Mobutu. ■ President Mobutu, in a letter to ‘‘Elima.” confirmed that there had been a recent coup attempt instigated by a major foreign Power, but did not name the country. He gave no date for] the attempt. President Mobutu said the; attempted coup did not involve the Zaire Army, but; “wayward Zaire citizens; who had been motivated by! money.” I
