STAMP STORY
William retired to his country estate. But the stamps, surprisingly enough, survived the war. In February, 1920, they were at last issued in Albania, with an overprint depicting the Albanian crest of a double-headed eagle. A memento Unoverprinted stamps like that illustrated here reached the stamp market, but were never used for postage in this form. The) 7 remain as fascinating mementoes of the power struggle in Europe more than 60 years ago — and of a monarchy which lasted just six months.
