Disqualified driving
After a retirement of 35 minutes, a jury in the Supreme Court yesterday found Walter Arthur Bur- ; gess, aged 44, a transport [ worker, guilty on a charge I of driving while disqualified [on February 6, having been [ previously convicted of the same offence.
Mr Justice Roper remanded Burgess in custody to June 20 for sentence. Mr D. J. L. Saunders appeared for the Crown and Mr P. F. Whiteside for Burgess, who pleaded not guilty.
Traffic Officer P. A. Burgess gave evidence of following on Pages Road a car driven by the accused from the Aranui Motor Hotel. He stopped the car in Shortland Street, and was reversing his unmarked patrol vehicle behind the car when he saw the man who had been driving change places with his woman passenger in the front seat.
The accused gave evidence and said that his wife had been driving. She gave corroborative evidence.
