Nastase again walks off

Manuel Orantes (Spain) and Raul Ramirez (Mexico) will meet in what promises to be a highly-exciting, evenly-matched final of the Italian international tennis championships. Ramirez, the sixth seed, beat the top seed and defending champion, Bjorn Borg (Sweden), in the quarterfinals, 6-4, 6-3, and then had a sensational semi-final victory over the mercurial Rumanian. Hie Nastase. Nastase walked off the court after Ramirez had built a 6-2, 5-2, lead He claimed he was unable to breathe properly because of a nervous condition brought on by having to wait for Ramirez, who was 30 minutes late for their match. Orantes, the fourth seed and winner in 1972. defeated the Argentinian. Guillermo Vilas, 6-2, 6-2, 6-2, in the other semi-final. Vilas had eliminated Onny Parun (New Zealand), 6-3, 6-1, in the quarter-finals. The women’s singles final was won in devastating fashion by Chris Evert i (United States), who thrashed ! Martina Navratilova (CzechoI Slovakia), 6-1, 6-0.
