OUR COUNTESS MIGHT SCORE AT WANGANUI
First day form is invariably a good guide at a Wanganui meeting and today should be no exception with the first four home on the first day— Yelumba, Our Countess, Wild Irish, and Minicort—all expected to race prominently in the White Horse Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double. Our Countess looked a little unlucky on Saturday when she was forced to cover extra ground in the straight, and w’ith Yalumba less favourably placed in the weights she may be able to turn the tables on her first day conquerer.
However, the biggest danger to the Matamata mare may come from the fresh runners. Dark Burn and Bestow, both of which arc most capable in wet ground. Even Return has a fine form background for the Russell Grace Handicap, second leg of the T.A.B double, with Biscay, Stylish Pal. and Alwiek looking the best of the others. Selections:— 11 a.m.—Castlecliff Handicap: Fair Gold. Sugar And Spice, Sir Acorn.
