Canty horses almost scooped pool

Canterbury trainers, headed bv Barry Jones, of Washdyke, who saddled three winners, almost scooped the pool at Wingatui on Saturday Between them they produced the winners of eight of the nine races.

Jones nearly made it four wins for the meeting. His Queen Elizabeth candidate, Scotch William, was narrowly beaten for first by Donnybrook Fair. Riccarton’s Donnybrook Fair—he is prepared by Mrs V. H. Harris—came with a brilliant late run to win the feature fiat race.

The little fancied Bev Leigh, also from Riccarton, came with a strong late run for third. Tne Jones stable was represented successfully by Chow Mellay (Mansfield Maiden), Rustikhan (Tahuna Steeples), and Hagens Cloud 'Pressmen’s Handicap). Hagen’s Cloud gave her opIponents a galloping lesson in [the second leg of the double. I She came from mid-field to gather in the leaders 200 metres out and from that point was nut ! tested.

Barry Taggart, of Riccarton. produced Mereoak to win the 'Gladstone Maiden, and Airily.

trained by the part-owqer. C. Coe. at Rangiora. beat two Riecarton rivals Special Tune and Celsius, in the Brighton Handicap No. 1.

The Brighton Handicap No. 2 was won by Bennelong. which is trained by his part-owner. Ray .Harris, at Tuahiwi. and the '.Vashdyke trainer, Pat Corboj. rounded off a great day for Canterbury when the top-weight and favourite. Good Nip, finished brilliantly from the rear to win the St Clair Handicap
