Press Association staff correspondent, Derek Round. Dame Te Ata’s only previous overseas visit has been to the Pacific Islands.

Travelling by air, she will visit Bankok, Delhi, Bombay, Rome and Zurich before arriving in London. She is accompanied by her husband, Mr whatumoana Paki, and a small party. Dame Te Ata's itinerary in Britain is centred around visits to arts and crafts centres and historical places in London and in major proving cial centres. It includes a trip to Whitby, Yorkshire, where Captain Cook studied seamanship. She will also dp. a tour of Scotland and witi visit Culzean Castle, accompanied by Lord Ballantrae, chairman of the British Council and a former Gover-nor-General of New Zealand.

Among places she will visit are Loch Lomond, Balmoral and St Andrews. She will also attend the Henley regatta, the semifinals of tennis at Wimbledon, and the Royal Agriculture Show at Kenilworth.

Dame Te Ata will leave Britain on July 12, visit several European cities and pass through Toronto, New York and Honolulu before returning to New Zealand on August 31.

She will be the third Maori sovereign to visit Britain. King Tawhaio and King Te Rata travelled to Britain in 1884 and 1914 respectively.
