Protest too late
A last-ditch stand against, ’the Hospitals Amendment IBill was made by the Voice, of Women (Dunedin) to the, Governor-General (Sir Denis, Blundell), but it was too late: because he had put his signa-, ture to the document on 1 Thursday. i ’ Voice of Women believedi 'that the Governor-General, could act as an Upper House 'and delay legislation preventing “the hasty and emotional (shaping of laws which are (often regretted.” The group believed that the Bill should Jbe dealt with by a commission which would cover the {whole issue of abortion. In a statement, the Voice! of Women said that the Bill had been passed by a min-; ority of elected represents-' i tives without consultation ■ with the women of New Zea-' .land. “Bad laws weaken society’s' respect for al) laws," said the statement.
