Versatile yachtsmen

Two yachtsmen who have gained considerable prominance in other classes, Ross Baverstock and Mick Pinkney (both Wellington), have been included in the New Zealand team for the world 470 championship at Association Island, United States. Baverstock won the national Moth title in 1972-73 and 1973-74 and was third behind the Canterbury helmsman, Melv Seiwood, last season. It was in the twoman R-class that Pinkney had previously made his mark, having been the New Zealand champion twice and the runner-up . to John Rountree (Canterbury) earlier this year. The other members of the New Zealand squad

are Mark Patterson and! Brett Bennett (both; Auckland), Andy Knowles i (Wellington) and Neville' England (Canterbury). As well as the world contest, they will sail in the Canadian national series and in regattas at Kingston and Toronto in Canada. Knowles and England will then travel back to Kingston for the pre-Olympic races. The president of the Canterbury' yachting association (Mr H. L. England) said yesterday that, in contrast to the building problems encountered at other Olympic venues in Montreal, the yachting facilities at Kingston had been completed 18 months early and were regarded as the most modern in North America. j
