The following Canterbury women’s hockey teams have been selected to play in a mini-tournament against Otago and Eastern Southland at Hagley Park on Sunday and Monday;:— A team.—S. Haig P. Barwick (captain), J Wilson, J. Te Kara (Carlton); A. McKenna, M. Rankin. L, Schulz (Harewood); J. Allen (Burnside); C. Butts, C. McAuley, S Maloney, J. Barry (Rawhiti). B team.—V. McGregor (captain), B. Roper, J.’ Wright (Cranmer); H. Denny, S. Lynn (Burnside); A. Chivers (Digbys); E. Armstrong (Shirley); L. Shankland, L Langham, I. Knight (Carlton); J. Galloway (University); W. Stock. L. Sutherland (Harewood). Tennis.—Two New Zealand players have reached the semifinals of the Surrey grass court championships at Surbiton. Chris Lewis beat F. van der Merwe (South Africa). 6-4. 7-5, and Judy Connor beat M. Tyler (Britain) in the women’s singles.
