Interim seamen scheme
GV.Z. Association) WELLINGTON. May 30. The final administration of the seamen’s istabilisation scheme was; jstill under negotiation, jsaid the Minister of' Transport (Sir Basil Arthur) today. The president of the Seai men’s Union (Mr D. J. Morgan) had said earlier that the roster system would continue as in the past. Sir Basil said the Ministry: of Transport was co-operating j with the parties involved, and would handle the day-to- ! iday servicing of the scheme! lin the interim as paying agent for the employers. .
“The interim scheme agreed on by the union and the employers is a continuation of the existing scheme, and the Ministry’s involvement remains as in the past, with the addition of paying the attendance money on behalf of the employers.
“This scheme recognises the authority of marine superintendents to decide on matters in dispute,” the Minister added.
Mr Morgan said that arrangements were being made for the payment of attendance money of $lO a day, the rate paid to cooks and stewards.
This was a bridging scheme approved yesterday by seamen at a stop-work meeting pending the negotiation of a permanent roster system, Mr Morgan said.
Store lambs.—Farmers who have sold store lambs since January' 24 are not entitled to claim the Government subsidy of 60c a head, says a statement by the Meat Board. This subsidy was payable only on store lambs sold between October 1, 1974, and January 24, 1975.—(P.A.)
