Four more die in Beirut
(N.ZP.A.-Reuter —Copyright) I BEIRUT, May 30. Four more people died in! Beirut last night in clashes! between right-wing Phalan-j gists and Lebanese suppor-l ters of the Palestinian com-! mandos, police said today. The latest casualties brought the death toll in 10 davs of fighting to at least! 100 and added to the prob-' dems of .the Prime Minister; designate, Mr Rashid Karami, as he sought to shape a coalition Cabinet capable of end-; ling Lebanon’s festering political crisis. Police said that last night's victims of the violence all died near the city centre. One man was found with his throat cut; the others had been shot. A few snipers are still active, occasionally picking off passing pedestrians, but the level of fighting has: dropped sharply. Early today the capital was calm as Mr Karami met President Suleiman Franjieh; Ito brief him on his contacts! I yesterday with leaders of all the country’s political factions. Mr Karami. appointed Prime Minister-designate two; davs ago after the resignation of the short-lived military Cabinet, has declined to set a date for the formation of his Government. He said last night that restoring stability and security to Beirut was even more important than forming; ithe new Cabinet.
