Aerosol-spray research

The Minister of Science (Mr Moyle) is keeping in contact with the United States Naional Academy of Sciences on the effect of aerosol sprays on the Earth’s ozone layer.

The academy has set up a study' panel of United States and foreign scientists to assess the probable effects of stratospheric pollutants on the ozone laver.

It is using theoretical ( models to determine whether continued use of the halome-1 thanes in aerosol sprays and; other pollutants such as emissions from high-flying aircraft and the projected space. shuttle, cause depletion of the ozone layer, which might affect human health.

Mr Moyle said today that ( he had been in contact with the academy through the; Royal Society of New Zea-1 land, and would keep a close ( watch on the outcome of the I studies.
