One killed and eight injured

The man who was killed when a car hit a pole on the Hororata-Coalgate road on Friday night was Garry Pinn, aged 23, a pottery worker, of Glentunnel.

He was a passenger in the car.

Eight people were admitted to hospital on Saturday night after road accidents in Canterbury. Five of those admitted were discharged after staying overnight. I Hooker Avenue, Bumside, who suffered head injuries when the car he was in hit a pole at the corner of Grahams Road and Greers Road at 9.15 p.m. Barry John Dickson, of 32 Stanmore Road, Richmond, who was admitted to hospital with head injuries and lacerations after the car he was in [hit a pole on Breezes Road at 7.30 p.m. Colin Vernon Rogers, of 2 Sinclair Street, New Brighton, who was admitted to hospital with head injuries and lacerations after two cars collided on the Bower Road bridge, at 10.15 p.m. Islay Marjorie Murray, aged 40, of Strathfield Avenue, was admitted to hospietal after two cars collided at the corner of Bowhill Road and Keys Road at 9.30 p.m.

John Victor Nelson, of 27 Conference Street, suffered head injuries and lacerations when a bus and a car collided at the corner of Innes Road and Kensington Avenue at 10.30 p.m.
