Target in sight

The New Zealand Bowling Association should achieve its longheld objective of 50,000 members next summer.

Last season, 882 new players came into the game and the total now stands at 49,793.

However, bowls is still well behind golf as the country’s mostplayed men’s sport. At the last count, nearly a year ago. there were 68,653 registered male golfers. Both these sports also have substantial female followings — golf about 40,000 and bowls about 22,000 — and they are headed only by netball as the most-played women’s sport. Netball’s total is about 68,000.
