Kiwis retain four of beaten team

(N.Z.P.A. Stalf Correspondent)

TOWNSVILLE.

Only four of the Kiwis in the side beaten by North Queensland on Thursday have been retained for the second match of the New Zealand Rugby League teams’ tour of Australia against Central Queensland at Rockhampton tomorrow.

They are Phil Orchard, John O’Sullivan, Dennis .Williams, and Tom Conroy, who moves from second row to hooker.

| A key selection is that of IJohn Whittaker at full-back. ; He will be making his comei back for New Zealand, after a car crash last year. Led by Eade : The team will be captained by Murray Eade, while Don Munro, Kevin Potter, Kevin Barry, Graeme West, Ray Baxendale. and Josh Liavaa will'all be playing their first match for New Zealand.

Central Queensland lost, 0-38, to Britain last season, and has lost its three games this season, against North Queensland, New South Wales Country, and Queensland. However, North Queensland beat the Kiwis, 20-16, on Thursday by capitalising on errors, and Central might do the same if the New Zealanders make as many mistakes again. “We did so many good things, but we spoiled it all with our mistakes,” the New Zealand captain, Ken Stirling, said. Runaway tries

In an entertaining game, the Kiwis threw the ball around in fine style and scored four good team tries, but in doing so they made too many fundamental errors and lost a match they should have won.

North Queensland latched on to the Kiwis’ errors to score three runaway tries, and by getting them dose to the posts, gave its Aboriginal full-back, Frank Daisy, easy kicks to provide the winning margin.

New Zealand .also scored four tries, but three of them were wide out, while Warren ■ Collicoat was off target with his kicking. The Kiwis indicated that they had the basis of a good side, but will need to polish up on their passing and kicking. Possession lost

Repeatedly, the Kiwis tried clever moves on the first and second tackle before the defence had been drawn out of position, and the ball was lost. They also kicked badly, sometimes on the first tackle, again giving away possession.

On the credit side, all four New Zealand tries were real

team efforts, and there' were good all-round displays by Collicoat, Stirling and John Wright, with some sound defence by Conroy. The teams for tomorrow are:— New Zealand. — Whittaker. Orchard, O’Sullivan, Potter, Munro, Williams, Barry, Eade, Liavaa, Baxendale, J. Hibbs, Conroy, West. Reserves: R. Jarvis, L. Proctor. Central Queensland.—K. Parsons, J. Papp, C. O’Brien. G. Reynolds, R. Price, L. Williams. C. Denman G. Mason, A. Hodgeson, M. Grant, L. Yates, W. Duguid, M. Pannowitz.
