Talks achieve nothing

No settlement of the Dunlop dispute, which is threatening to close the Woolston factory , was reached at a meeting of the Canterbury Trades Council yesterday.

The meeting between the management of Dunlop, the Rubber Workers’ Union and the Trades Council officers was adjourned. Another meeting could be called early next week if either side submits a proposal for consideration.

The manager of the gen-i eral product division at Dun-1 lop (Mr N. M. Allcock) said' that nothing was achieved at the meeting. The secretary of the Trades Council (Mr F. E. McNulty) said that certain

[Views had been put forward by the parties involved that would be considered, and he hoped that another meeting would be called — possibly next week.

The president of the Rubber Workers Union (Mr C. A. Hanson) said that the meeting was fairly informal, and no settlement was arrived at. “Neither party changed its attitude to the dispute, and both put forward their views,” he said.

The secretary of the union (Mr L. G. Morel) met executive members of the Wel-

lington Rubber Workers Union yesterday to bring them up to date on the dispute.
