“The New Dick Van Dyke Show’ which will begin on Saturday really is new. It has three new regulars — Dick van Patten, Barry Gordon and Henry Darrow (Manolito of "The High i Chaparral”), and a new format. Dick van Dyke as Dick Preston has finally made his oftdh talked about move from Phoenix, where he has been hosting his own talk ’ show for some time, to j Hollywood. It is there that Dick is asked to take a continuing ; role in a soap opera after ’the leading lady, a former movie star, takes a shine to
him. The situation is fraught with danger, according to Dick's wife Jenny (Hope Lange) but it also provides a whole new base for comic situations.
The three newcomers to the show are all involved with the production of Ihe soap opera. Barry Gordon is Dennis Whitehead, the series writer: Dick van Patten is Max Mathias, the show's producer; and Henry Darrow is Alex Montenez, the stage manager.
