Regional aid council

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, May 13

The Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Freer) today announced that the Government intended to establish a regional development council in Marlborough.

It will be the eleventh region granted priority under the regional-development scheme. Mr Freer said that Marlborough would now become eligible for regionaldevelopment assistance, which is primarily to encourage balanced industrial development in slow-growth regions.

The Under-Secretary for Trade and Industry (Mr B. P. MacDonell) will initiate the establishment of the council, working in conjunction with the member of Parliament for Marlborough, Mr I. J. Brooks, who will soon call nominations for the council.

Tour leaflets.—The Southern Africa Friends Association would counter H.A.R.T.’s plans to distribute leaflets opposing next year’s South African Rugby tour by distributing leaflets of its own, said the association’s president (Lieutenant-Colonel A. C. R. Elderton) yesterday.— (P.A.) Labour conference.—The Labour Party conference decided yesterday that next year’s conference would be held in Wellington.—(P.A.)
