Information wanted on integration
The Independent ! Schools Assistant ( Teachers’ Association has called for a clear of policy from i the Government concerning the degree of financial aid which would be offered to independent schools integrating with the State education system.
The call was made yesterday at the closing session of the four-day conference of the association in Christchurch. It followed the recent statement by the Minister of Education (Mr Amos) that legislation to provide for the integration of independent schools would be introduced in Parliament soon.
The National council of the association also approved resolutions reiterating the anxiety of members of the association on some aspects of the integration proposals, and directing the national executive to defend and uphold the interests of the independent schools. Confirmation of concerted
action came when the executive of the Association of Heads of Independent Secondary Schools, meeting in Wanganui, sent a message to the conference calling for ;a combined meeting of the independent schools’ three (associations, together with representatives of the governing bodies. The meeting, in Wellington in June, will make decisions on the establishment of a framework for making combined submissions on matters of common interest, and the provision of plans for setting up combined subject committees to make submissions to the Education Department’s Curriculum Development Unit.
