Drivers want clean racing

Woodford Glen salooncar drivers met last evening to discuss the behaviour of some drivers, particularly visitors to the track, and have called for stricter sunervis n of the car reinforcing regulations. Soin* cars, they say, have been made so strong that thev can damage other cars without being damaged themselves. The president of the Christchurch Stock and

Saloon Car Drivers’ Club (Mr L. Richards) said that the drivers at the meeting wanted to see more sportsmanship and less “barging" in saloon racing. “Thev want hard racing.

but they want it to be clean,” he added. Some of the drivers said they would retaliate if other drivers deliberately crowded them. At an afternoon Woodford Glen meeting on Sunday, May 4. a Wellington driver, lan Taylor, was disqualified after pushing a local competitor off the track.

Kevin Baird was trying to hold Taylor off in the back straight when his car went sideways. Instead of backing off, Taylor nudged the side of Baird’s car, sending it spinning infield, where it rolled. Baird was not hurt.
