A platinum medal was the first piece of platinum to be hallmarked at the London Assay Office under the new British Hallmarking Act recently. The London Goldsmiths' Company, which is responsible for the assaying of gold and silver wares, now checks the platinum for 95 per cent purity before it is hallmarked.
